The Cove
History of The Cove
The cove was settled in the early 1800s. Several of the old homestead sites can still be seen with foundations and chimneys partially intact, giving a quiet whisper of times past. Many great frontiersmen fed their families from these mountains and hollows.
Legend has it that one bad winter Davy Crockett, who once lived in the shadow of the Cove, killed over 300 black bears and was able to save the local settlement from starving.
